So I read a couple of articles, one was from Technology News and the other was from Technology Review. I have never encountered a Wikipedia article that has been vandalized. Even if I did, I would correct it. (Or at least, someone will.)
I agree with the articles that most of the world loves Wikipedia. A lot of the information given to us are pretty accurate. (The things I have researched, at least.) I don't think Wikipedia is as bad as some people, ESPECIALLY some of our teachers make it seem. Wikipedia is not like Urban Dictionary. There is always someone who will be either deleting what you have contributed to the subject matter whether it's negative or not. Someone is always policing your contributions. Whereas, in Urban Dictionary, it is also a Citizendium. However, it is not monitored as strictly as Wikipedia. So far, the things that I have researched through Wikipedia were accurate. I was never given permission to use Wikipedia because my high school was strict about it as well. I looked to Wikpedia to see if there were any other information I wasn't finding and I was also looking at where these users got their sources because that would help me find resources for my paper other than it being directly from Wikipedia. Wikipedia asks you to cite your sources, so it can be reliable. It really can be.
I posted a paragraph in the "Theorosa's Bridge" article and so far it hasn't been edited or taken off. Theorosa's Bridge is a haunted bridge in Valley Center, Kansas. The tale has been around for quite some time now. Parents and grandparents pass the stories down to their children. As far as I know, there are a lot of versions. I typed in a version I knew without citing anyone. I only typed what I knew based on word of mouth when I lived there. Hopefully it doesn't get taken off! Because it was a tale, it would've been harder to cite a source, so I'm putting Wikipedia to the test to see if they're going to delete an uncited source. If you want to see the page go to www.wikipedia.org and type in "Theorosa's Bridge." I typed up "Another more modern versin."
